John studied at Otago University and has over 20 years experience in dentistry. He has a Fellowship in Restorative Dentistry with the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons, has served on the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry’s International Committee, is a member of the President’s honour roll with the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry and is the Immediate Past President of The New Zealand Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry. He has given many lectures on dentistry throughout New Zealand and has organised several dental conferences.
He practices all forms of general and cosmetic dentistry. John is trained in using Botulinum-A Toxin (Botox, Dysport and Xeomin) and Dermal Fillers. He has completed more than 80 cases of straightening teeth with Invisalign. He completes all his work under magnification and only uses tooth-coloured materials when placing fillings.
When not at work, John is running his three children to various after school activities, or playing his bass guitar, (badly).
Tom is no stranger to the fact that the thought of having dentistry done can be daunting. No matter what a patients situation is, Tom will always aim to understand what the patient wants, whilst providing support, without judgement.
Tom draws on a depth of technical skills and knowledge. He graduated in 2006 from Otago University with a credit for his academic and clinical achievements. During his studies he was awarded with the Best Undergraduate Research Award. Since then, in 2011, Tom has a graduated from a comprehensive 2 year Orthodontic programme. He has completed numerous courses in a wide range of dental disciplines.
Family is a value that lies at the heart of Tom’s life. He grew up being taught principles by his GP father, principles as simple as “help people”. He has a wife, and their two young sons were born and raised here on the Coast. In his free time Tom and his wife enjoy chasing (quite literally) his sons through the Coasts beautiful beach
Stephen completed his dental degree in 1992 and has been living and practicing on the Hibiscus Coast since 1999. He has a particular interest in orthodontics, cosmetic dentistry and sedation in dentistry. Stephen devotes a considerable amount of time to extending his education in these areas, and regularly travelling to training courses in New Zealand, Australia and America.
Stephen is passionate about providing advanced dental care and the integration of general dentistry, orthodontics and cosmetic dentistry to provide the best possible outcomes for his patients.
He is also one of the few providers of intravenous sedation on the Hibiscus Coast. He is particularly interested in its use in making general dentistry possible for the really anxious, and making the removal of wisdom teeth a more pleasant experience for all his patients.
Stephen is a member of the NZ Dental Association, NZ Society of Sedation in Dentistry, NZ Dentists Orthodontic Society and was a founding member of the NZ Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry. In 2011 he completed an American based, 2-year orthodontic program, from which he graduated with honours.
Stephen enjoys many pastimes outside of work including scuba diving, mountain biking, photography, model making, and spending time with his family.
Luke is a local, born and bred. After graduating in Dentistry at Otago in 2005, Luke moved back home to pursue his career at Hibiscus Coast Dental.
Ten years later he is still here. Luke has honed his craft and takes pride in providing quality dental care to his community.
Jane graduated in 1997 and is both a registered dental hygienist and orthodontic auxiliary. She’s been living and working on the coast since 2000. Married, with two children, she spends her free time gardening, outdoor pursuits, spending time with family and walking her Scottish terrier ‘Duncan’.
Katie graduated from Otago University in 2006 with a diploma in Dental Hygiene and Local Anaesthetics. She is an active member of The New Zealand Dental Hygiene Association.
Katie has come from an extensive background in specialist and periodontal care. Katie is dedicated to her patients and also to continuing her education. She likes to maintain a happy and healthy environment for her patients.
She is a loving mother of 2 small children and enjoys art and photography in her spare time.
Eugenie graduated from Auckland University of Technology with a Bachelor’s Degree in Dental Hygiene, Therapy and Orthodontic Auxiliary. She puts a great emphasis on prevention of dental disease and teaches her patients correct oral healthcare techniques, which will help them to keep their teeth for life. She is able to get alongside her patients to help them to overcome their dental anxieties and fears. She values the role of on-going education in providing her patients with the best standards of care.
Eugenie also has a part-time role at Auckland University of Technology where she teaches dental hygiene students.
In her spare time she enjoys travelling, keeping fit and spending time with her family and friends.
Sally has been at the practice for 10 1/2 years, and working with Luke for the past 9 ½ years. Sally enjoys her work and conversing with a wide range of people. Originally from the UK she has been resident in NZ for over a decade. She is a member of the Stanmore Bay Leisure Centre and recently took up golf to spend more time with her husband, a keen golfer.
Claire has been part of the team for 11 years and assists Tom. She finds the job varied and enjoys getting to meet interesting people. In her spare time she likes reading, listening to music, going to the theatre and walking her greyhound on the local beach.
Originally from the UK, Sam moved with her family to New Zealand 10 years ago, and we are thrilled to have her on the Hibiscus Coast Dental team.
Sam has worked in the dental industry for 18 years and completed the highly regarded British Dental Surgery Assistant’s course whilst in the UK. She is employed as Stephen’s assistant, and enjoys her work greatly because of the variety of tasks and the opportunity to meet many different people.
Outside of work, Sam loves spending time with her family, riding her 2 horses and fishing.
Kirsty, John’s assistant, has been part of our team for over 5 years. With her gentle nature, she is great at putting nervous patients at ease. Kirsty is originally from South Africa and a beauty therapy background, however, she moved to New Zealand 16 years ago after a stint working in London. In her free time she enjoys spending time with family and friends.
Jaime is our Practice Manager. She has been worked in public, private and not-for-profit healthcare for the past 6 years; however, she has also worked in a variety of other industries including: Engineering; Recruitment & Travel. The majority of Jaime’s roles have been in Human Resources and Operations. When she isn’t at work, she is furthering her education in Human Resource Management and Psychology.
In her spare time Jaime enjoys photography, reading, and embarking on road trips, as well as spending time with her young family.
Katrina’s been part of the team for over a decade. She is usually the first person you see as you walk in the door, always there to offer a friendly greeting and help you with your inquiries. When not at work she likes to socialise with friends and family.
Amanda has been part of the team for several years in a part-time capacity. She has a talent for numbers and plays a key role in managing the accounts for patients with ongoing treatment. When she’s not at the practice she’s a loving mother to an energetic little boy.
Charlotte is our newest team member. She has come to us from a medical background, and various roles within a medical centre, where she worked for a decade. When she’s not at work, she enjoys exploring her new backyard, Snell’s Beach, with her partner and her fur babies.
Brenda is one of our newest members of the team and works for us in a part-time capacity. When she isn’t at our practice, she works for the logging industry as an Accountant. She also enjoys volunteering for Riding for Disabled and enjoys socialising with friends and family. She is kept busy with three teenagers and enjoys going to the gym.
As a team we are continually investing in our skills and people. All of our Dentists and Hygienists completed their qualifications in NZ and regularly attend courses, conferences and maintain professional memberships to stay fully informed and up to date on the latest advances in dentistry
